On Wednesday 27 November 2024, we were pleased to welcome former BBC journalist and broadcaster Nicholas Witchell to provide a thought-provoking talk about D Day and the British Normandy Memorial Trust.
As a Trustee of the British Normandy Memorial Trust, Nicholas’ insight into the importance of remembering the sacrifices of over 22,000 individuals was profound. He spoke of the emotional stories of veterans, and the lives lost during the war, including those of our Old Johnians.
It was following a conversation during his news correspondent role that Nicholas met Normandy veteran, George Batts, whose impactful comments led to the idea of setting up the British Normandy Memorial – an everlasting sign of gratitude.
